Lockdown and Covid-19
During the last two months the Estate has grown used to Lock Down status with occasional additional security resources being utilised to good effect.
GDECL’s objective throughout this crisis has been to facilitate Government Instructions whilst keeping the Estate ‘open’ but safe and secure.
Easing of Restrictions and benches
After the recent announcement by the Prime Minister, some small changes can now be made:
- Seating in Black Badge Square and Paju Way will be made available.
Each bench can seat up to 4 (family members).
- Good behaviour will be required.
- Social distancing requirements between benches will be met by taping off as necessary.
- Benches in Mariners Square will be opened and positioned as they are decorated over the course of the next week as some are in desperate need of attention. They will be placed at least 2 metres apart and we will only be opening a small selection for residents to use. They will also be placed well away from any buildings so that those residents that have shown concern about people sitting near their open windows can be rest assured that we are doing everything we can to keep them safe.
The cleaning team will routinely disinfect all bins and benches on a continuous cycle throughout the day.
They will also be carrying on with their routine daily tasks and in addition will be deep cleaning some of the surfaces which require jet washing. This will only take placed on weekdays from 9am-6pm to limit any noise disturbance to residents.
Security will be tasked with monitoring the situation daily, and where necessary continuing to move people on that are not adhering to the rules. The increased security hours employed to aid our existing team have now ceased but will be recalled should the need arise.
During lockdown we were only permitted to carry out essential maintenance where it was deemed necessary for safety. Now that construction and maintenance firms are returning to work, we are intending to commence painting the Victoria basin swing
bridge (with C &RT contractors already tendered), and undertake all the small maintenance works scheduled, in this better weather. This will ensure that once businesses, retailers and cafes/restaurants are able to re-open again they are not faced with any slight disturbance to hinder successful recovery in any way.
With some restrictions now being lifted you may all be aware that you have some great takeaway options on your doorstep. Settebellos and Greek on the Docks are both offering a takeaway service at this present time with The Med due to follow later this month. They are all active on social media and are taking phone orders and / or Just Eat orders ready for you to collect. A great excuse to take extra daily exercise and treat yourselves at the same time. Social distancing measures are in place so please adhere to this when collecting.
The shopping centre remains closed at this present time however some of the offices are still operating. The tenants are also required to carry out certain checks for safety and insurance purposes so you may still see people milling around from time to time. Plans are currently underway to prepare for reopening with social distancing measures in place and once there are further government updates on this I will endeavour to update you all.
The benches in Orchard Square will also be reopening over the weekend so please feel free to use them again in line with social distancing. Security will be enforcing this where appropriate and benches will be cleaned and located 2 metres apart. This area is the responsibility of Gloucester Quays but should you have any queries regarding it then please do not hesitate to get in touch and I will try my best to answer them for you.
As with all things at the moment, Estate events will be scrutinised on a day by day basis to ensure that the Estate is ‘open’ but safe and secure. The Directors and I really do appreciate any feedback we can gather from residents so please feel free to send them through to us using my e-mail address email@example.com I am currently working from home so I really do rely on you that are living there to help me help you to achieve a fair balance and compromise to make life that little bit easier during such difficult times.
